Sean Corcoran is one half of the creative duo that make up The Art Hand. Their business began life 10 years ago as an art school and is now emerging into a gallery studio that is currently open by appointment. Sean is best known these days as a sand artist. Yes that’s right, he draws massive pictures on beaches using a garden rake! It’s a form of environmental art.
Sean describes his studio as the great outdoors and in the last 2 years the majority of his work has been created at Kilmurrin Cove, just down the road from The Art Hand studio on the beautiful Copper Coast. Most of Sean’s artworks are solo but he also facilitates sand art workshops with families, private groups and schools. He has created marriage proposals, birthday surprises and private memorials. He has worked all around Ireland and the UK for seaside festivals and even as far as Texas!
Sean has undertaken commissions for organisations including Fáilte Ireland, Amnesty International, the Golf Open, the Samaritans, the Welsh Government, the Green Party, Six Nations Rugby, RTE, Virgin Media and BBC. Full details of his sand art workshops and commissions are on their website where you can also order prints of Sean’s amazing artworks with worldwide shipping.
Sean’s most recent project is called SUPERSONIC SAND that combines Electronic Music with Sand Art! Many up and coming Irish artists are featured as well as artists from as far as LA and Tokyo. As well as the film releases every two weeks a series of interviews are being created of each of the collaborations and there are plans to release an album and a documentary of the project. Supersonic Sand is being co-produced by Rebecca Cappuccini of Viking Promotions.
